Do you want to become a LA moderator in 2016?

Services For Education, working on behalf of Birmingham Local Authority to organise and manage statutory assessment duty,  is inviting expressions of interest from serving teachers who  wish to become a Teacher Moderator for either EYFS profile statutory assessments, Key Stage 1 statutory teacher assessments, or Key Stage 2 statutory assessments in 2016.

The local authority has a responsibility to conduct moderation of teacher assessment judgements in 25% of its schools and settings each year and in those academies and free schools that choose Birmingham as their moderation provider.

For us in Birmingham this means a half day visit to moderate a sample of teacher assessments as appropriate at each key stage  for in approximately 80 schools each statutory year group.  In 2016, the visits must take place in the summer term and be completed before any submission of data by the deadlines as advised by Standards and Testing Agency (STA) or the Information Management Team (IMT).

Please follow link for further information and application process.

Venue: To be confirmed

OR

Please find to follow details of the Trampolining – Teachers Refresher Course. This is for staff who have already gained the Teachers Trampolining Award Part 1 and Part 2 (each 2 day courses) and now need to refresh their current practice. This is because, as an Authority, Birmingham’s Trampolining Policy states that ‘there is a requirement for colleagues to attend an update course every 3 years to keep abreast of good practice and governing body recommendations’. The course lasts one day, 9.00am until 4.00pm.  To avoid any confusion surrounding eligibility to attend the Refresher course delegates will be asked to provide evidence that they have passed a British Gymnastics Teachers Trampoline Level 2 qualification or equivalent before being accepted onto the course.  Those who do attend the course will receive a certificate from British Gymnastics as evidence of their attendance.

Delegates need to be aware that the course involves a large amount of practical work so suitable kit is required – delegates must ensure they wear non slip socks not football/rugby socks.  The course will cover skills from both Part 1 and Part 2 syllabus but unlike the Part 2 course there is no written exam as part of the Refresher.  Please note this course is not on offer to PGCE or ITT trainees, only those with QTS.  The £120 covers all costs including the tutor, a Val Sabin DVD on all skills in the syllabus, lunch and refreshments. It is advisable for delegates to take extra drinks and snacks in line with their own requirements.  A resource pack is not supplied for this course but if delegates would like to purchase one at a cost of £15 then they are advised to speak to the tutor on the day.  Delegates are reminded to make sure they bring their personal DfE number (Teacher Reference number) with them on the day as this is required to complete British Gymnastics application forms.

If you would like to attend the Teachers Refresher Course please complete and return the booking application request form (see page 5).  Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and confirmed in writing by e-mail.  Delegate confirmations will provide full event details including dates, times and venue information.  There are only 15 places available for the course so prompt booking is recommended. An invoice for £120 will be raised following delegates attendance on the course so please ensure invoicing details are correct and provided in full.
